In 1995 the Directors of the Institute established an annual guest lectureship on "Frontiers in Biological Chemistry", combined with an award. During a week the awardee reports on his/her recent research and holds a more general Awards Lecture. The scientific emphasis in the "Frontiers" programme covers the areas of Bioinorganic Chemistry, Biological Photochemistry and Biological Photophysics.
